I’d been avoiding this job for quite a while opting to work on other things instead, but I couldn’t defer it any longer…

First carb off (cylinders 1 & 2) was in decently clean shape inside, but the brass accelerator piston was stuck in its bore and was clearly non-functioning, so one problem fixed so far. These carbs came from Redline and I’m happy to report that they diligently drilled the third progression holes, so I won’t have to deal with that.

Curious to see what the three other carbs look like inside. Taking my time with them to make sure nothing gets missed.

Your assumption is correct, I didn't see anything amiss with the second carb.

Tell Kay my ankle is doing well and getting better every day. The fracture is in a relatively good spot, so no soft cast required. Doc says it should heal on its own in 4 to 6 weeks as long as I don't do something stupid to reinjure it...

Btw, I ran the motor before tearing into the carbs. The recurved distributor with more initial advance definitely seemed to make the motor run better at idle, but off idle had a lean stumble as before and no clear way to tune it richer with my limited stockpile of jets and air correctors. Before I start buying parts, it was necessary to first go through the carbs and make sure there wasn't something else causing problems such as the stuck accel pump. I'm pretty much certain I'll find something similar with one or both of the other two carbs.

Really cool...I've never had my hands on Weber's so I'm a bit envious. Keep the blog going..I have been feeling a bit alone here on the site.lol

Carbs are all cleaned, adjusted and reinstalled. Linkage is reconnected and “eyeball” verified to open equally from closed to WOT. Time to fire it up and balance them. Fingers crossed.

Success gentlemen, I think I’m on the right track here. Motor is really starting to behave as it should! This thing has some snap to it for sure. Ready to start road testing it as soon as my ankle can withstand the heavy clutch.

I got a fair amount done today. Installed the catch can/breather and plumbed it to the ZF breather. Still have to plumb it to the valve cover breathers. Not sure just yet how I want to do that.

Filled three 5 gal gas cans with premium fuel ($4.03/gal…). Dumped one into the left tank and two into the right tank. I put 5 gal of premium into the left tank last week, so both tanks are about even.

Tightened all of the suspension jam nuts on the torque rods that were loosened during the rear suspension rework earlier in the year. Still a few I couldn’t get to, they’ll be a challenge.

The new fuel pump arrived late in the day. Started to install it, will finish it tomorrow.
