Ran a 1968 Nova in D/MP in the mid-70’s; 331” small block, tunnel ram, big ol’ Dana 60 with 5.14’s. Would go 10.04 / 132 mph against a 10.15 / 135 mph class record. Then Reher / Morrison showed up with their 287”, 10,000 rpm ‘65 Corvette and went 9.44 / 139++ mph, only to get quicker/faster every month for a year. I was hopelessly outclassed. So began a continuing theme. :p

But. A Chevy Of any size, in a Cobra, is heresy. Blasphemous! Best to sell the Cobra and build a Cheetah......

Here are a couple of pictures of my progress on the motor.
I have all the rotating parts all balanced, and I'm starting the pre-fitting of the rods and pistons. So far it looks like I only have to do one small relief spot on the bottom of each cylinder.
The only problem with that is that I want to be careful and not take too much. The book states that I only need around .035 clearance.
But to be careful I seem to be taking the crank in and out 2X's for each hole. Damn thing weights around 60lbs. Hope to get better at guessing the amount as I move thru the motor.

Looks like you're making good progress, how long do you figure before the motor goes back in the car?

Not sure...it really is almost done except for the assembly. I just have to keep motivated. I figure that I can make good time on it while the fiberglass resin is drying on Tom's car.

Tom asked me to try to attach multi photos..so these are reruns.

You'll have your work cut out for you repairing Tom's car...that damage will be a challenge to repair properly, but I have faith in your skills...

Not much visual to show. All of the cylinders have their notches for the rods to clear. I'm almost finished form fitting the crank scraper.
I did have a little disappointment thou. While the 400 2 bolt block has wider and stronger main webbing than the 4 bolt I had planned to use studs instead of bolts. But more research has informed me that it would need to be line honed do to different stress loads. I hadn't thought of that. Good thing Summit Racing has a good return policy.

Soon it will be time for hot soapy water and a blow gun. Fitting ring gaps should be all the fiddling work left to do.

Managed to get all the holes filled. Fitting the rings was a bigger job than expected. The ring filler made it much easier. I also bought a tapered ring compressor while it only fits the 4.155 bore makes me wonder why I waited so long to get one.
